In the United States, one standard drink contains approximately 14 grams of pure alcohol. This equals 12 oz of beer (5% ABV), 5 oz of wine (12% ABV), or 1.5 oz of distilled spirits (40% ABV). How does the body eliminate alcohol?
The liver metabolizes approximately 0.015% BAC per hour (about one standard drink per hour). This rate is largely constant — coffee, cold showers, food, or exercise do not speed up alcohol elimination. Time is the only thing that reduces your BAC.
