Second Brain Load Calculator
How much is living in your head costing you?
Mental Load Inputs
About This Tool
Keeping unresolved tasks in your head creates hidden switching overhead. This calculator estimates the weekly cost of mental check-ins and sleep-related attention leakage from unclosed loops.
How calculation works: Weekly mental-loop time = open tasks × check-ins per day × 35 seconds × 7 days, converted to hours. Sleep penalty hours are added from broken sleep input. Mental RAM percentage is a capped weighted score from open tasks, check-in frequency, and sleep disruption. Productivity loss estimate is derived from that RAM score plus sleep impact. Reclaimable hours assumes a recoverable fraction when tasks are externalized.
The core goal is operational: externalize commitments, then protect review and execution windows. Use the Time Card Calculator to reserve those windows and the Meeting Cost Calculator to reduce avoidable interruptions.
If recovery is collapsing attention stability, check the Sleep Debt Calculator and Caffeine Half-Life Calculator.
